Advertising Scandal

This advertisement from 2007 is under attack for it looking like a 'Gang rape'. This received lots of bad attention and was resurfaced in 2015 after the IVF controversy happened. Americas next top model judge Kelly Cutrone who found one of the images online tweeted "I guess simulating gang nbangs are fine - but IVF and same sex marriage are not - life according to @dolcegabbana".
This advert was banned. It was said that this image offended the dignity of women in the sense that the feminine figure is shown in a degrading manner, the woman is 'immobilised and subjected to a mans will'.
However this was not the only offensive advertisement that the brand has created. This advert is also inappropriate and was banned. Dolce and Gabbana has a history of developing controversial adverts that depict sexual acts that remain on the fringe of what mainstream society considers acceptable sexual practice. Other adverts include images of women brandishing knives, mistresses and slaves, shower room orgies and homosexual encounters.
We can all see the impact advertising has on society and to have such sexualised images normalising rape and sexual activities in everyday life is not acceptable. This is not the first time Dolce and Gabbana has had their advertisements removed.
