In 2011 the design duo said in an interview with WWD that they disapprove of cut-price collaborations, for example a collaboration with a store like H&M or any fast fashion brand. The design duo called these collections "cheap" and "trashy" and assured readers that they wouldn't follow in the steps of designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney and Moschino. Domenico Dolce continued to say " its not a matter of price. Elegance is intellectual; its about good taste, the cut, proportions, quality and how you carry yourself". He said the quality of the merchandise produced in a collaboration doesn't and cannot live up to the standards from high end fashion lines.
This is a very old fashioned view too have, although Dolce has a point, you cannot get the same quality for the lower price point, it is a very good way of promoting the brand and showing that the brand is up for new ideas. Many other brands have done a collaboration such as Moschino and H&M and it would be a great way of the designers getting their brands name out there in a new way and perhaps open it up to a whole new audience. I don't think that a collaboration would lessen the luxury of the brands name. Even if it wasn't clothing they could do a collaboration on fragrance, underwear, swimwear, sunglasses or even makeup.
