In January 2012 Dolce and Gabbana ban local shoppers from taking photos within or outside the store on Canton road in Hong Kong. This spurred protests that resulted in a temporary closure of the store. protestors took issue with the stipulation that foreign visitors and those from mainland china were exempt with the ban and the label then issued an apology.
After more than 1000 people flooded the Canton street store, they said that the photo ban was to protect its intellectual property. But residents were so angry that tourists were exempt from the ban. 1000's of protestors turned up to take photos of the store forcing it to close.
"We understand that the events which unfolded in front of the Dolce and Gabbana boutique on Canton Road have offended the citizens of Hong Kong, and for this we are truly sorry and apologise" Dolce and Gabbana continued to say, "The Dolce and Gabbana policy is to welcome the Hong Kong people and that of the whole world respecting the rights of each individual and of the local laws"

Locals in the city clearly want Dolce and Gabbana to leave for disrespecting their culture. If a store is open in a city surely it is there for the citizens of that city and by offending them and putting tourists first Dolce and Gabbana really could miss out on sales.
This can be seen as very offensive to the people in the city and will defiantly make the people in Hong Kong think twice about shopping in the store, even the people who might not of been aware of the photo ban certainly will now because of the protests.
