Motherhood Themed Runway

Dolce and Gabbana's Autumn/ Winter 2015 fashion show was based around motherhood. it was names "viva la mamma!" and was entirely dedicated to celebrating motherhood, a handful of models walked down with their children and babies whilst "mama" by the spice girls played. There was also heavily pregnant models walking the show. Dolce and Gabbana have even said that this show was an honour to their own mothers. The collection showed ultra feminine shapes, thick full skirts and cinched waists with lots of lace and florals. Many garments had the word Mamma or had children drawing printed on them.
In a report by the time magazine they say that the collection itself was stunning however the idea of the show left them 'cold'. They thin that the display was a shallow endorsement of women. There is a stern type created by the show that all mothers are the same, they are all radiant beautiful and not sexy. There was only pone model on the run way who was a bigger size than the typical model size which is near impossible to achieve after child birth. They think that this catwalk shows that motherss should have to live up to this expectation of the return to the pre baby body and isn't celebrating the idea of mother and children.
However I can somewhat agree with this idea however I think that the idea and the catwalk wasn't there to celebrate the body shape of mothers but the love between child and mother.
This continued into their new campaign which showed a wide crowd section of family life, with children and grandmothers. The images show the family laughing and taking selfies. This idea is very good however it isn't long after the IVF controversy, is this just added fuel to the fire? The #DGfamily was used to accompany this campaign.
